Every spring, more than 1.5 million visitors come to see the pink blooms in the nation's capital. The trees, located all around the Tidal Basin, sit next to the city's famous monuments, making for a wonderful spring stroll. Given as a gift by Japan in 1912, the 3,000 cherry trees bloom for only a few days each year. The trees reached "peak bloom" last Thursday.
